IT’S A REALLY NICE DAY

Thursday, March 8th, 2012

By Colin Manjoney ’13

LET US ALL OFFER A SACRIFICE OF LENTILS AND WINE TO OUR LOCAL SOLAR DEITY IN THANKFUL GRACE FOR THIS MOST BEAUTIFUL OF DAYS

Greet the sun! Greet the warm, green grass! Greet the familiar, precious sights of children playing in Congress Park, attractive men and women walking beautiful dogs down Broadway, and Wheelie Guy sticking it to the man wherever he damn well pleases! Skidmore students, greet Spring, for it is imminent!

It is going to be something like ReallyNiceºF today, and it’s only going to get better from here on out.* I expect to see all of you on the green for the first of many hoorahs we will offer in grace to this most resplendent of seasons. What’s that? It’s still wet out and you’re afraid of getting all muddy? Steal your roommate’s blanket and SIT on that shit, dude!

*Tomorrow is actually going to be pretty cold, guys. HAHA PUNK’D AMIRITE??

UPDATE: SIKE NO IT’S NOT.

Winter is Coming: Storm Watch in Effect

Wednesday, February 29th, 2012

I'll be chilling like Cuba on Thursday if there's no school

Good and bad news from the local weather seers. I know y’all like your dessert first so the good news is that there’s a decent chance of at least six to ten inches of snow today and tomorrow, which (inshallah) could mean a snow day on Thursday. Bad news is that shitty weather has finally arrived, after a ridiculously mild winter.

According to the Saratogian

At this point in an average winter, 46.1 inches of snow would have fallen on the region. But this season, there have been 14.2 inches of snow — a far cry from last year. By this time last season, 72.5 inches of snow had fallen.

Shit cray. If I were you, I’d start buying thirty racks for Wednesday night, just in case. Don’t quote me on that though.

A White Halloween

THIS IS WHY I SHOULD HAVE GONE TO ARIZONA STATE

Just in case anyone forgot, it’s October. Happy winter, you guys! We’ve got six more months of this!

Tornado Apocalypse

Monday, September 5th, 2011

Watch out, 2015 parents!

Today, the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for Saratoga, Montgomery, and Schenectady Counties. I was snug as a bug in Scribner, but apparently everyone on campus was flipping their shit at around 5:30 PM, when a barrage of  rain and wind and thunder and lightning and fire and brimstone made everyone scream and run for cover. This was an incredibly inopportune time for the weather to suddenly throw a second grade hissy-fit, because the Class of 2015 (the largest and most diverse class in history) moved in today. What an ominous way to start your college experiences, guys! Hope it gets better from here!

The Saratogian is reporting that a tornado actually touched down in neighboring Montgomery County, and the accompanying video supports that, but the National Weather Service has yet to confirm whether or not the scary cloud actually was a tornado. Now, I only took one semester of oceanography, but it definitely looks like a tornado to me.

The video is pretty cool, and the lady filming it says “oh my god” a lot, but really stays surprisingly calm considering a TORNADO BLOWS RIGHT THE FUCK PAST HER. If I were her, I’d pretty much be shitting my pants and cowering in the back seat.

**BREAKING NEWS**

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

It is lovely out. Ditch your homework, crack a Guiness and go outside. The weather gods are calling for homework weather (read: rain) tomorrow and Thursday so you should probably soak this up while you can.

School’s Out for Snow Day

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

As many of you already know, all normal school functions after 2 pm today have been suspended due to the white powdery substance falling from above. Unfortunately, the Library will also be closing its doors around 6 p.m., so instead of doing homework, it’s time for a nap. The school will reopen at 6 am Thursday morning. Enjoy the afternoon.

Check out the campus’ snow hotline for more info: 518-580-SNOW.

Snowball fight, anyone?

Winter Weather Advisory

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

I don’t really understand the rainbow spilled across this map, but The National Weather Service has issued a “winter storm warning” for Saratoga Springs until tomorrow at 1pm. The NWS warns “one-half to one inch of ice is possible from the Capital Region north into the Saratoga region.  There is the possibility of widespread power outages across the region as well as property damage due to falling tree limbs.” Perhaps tonight will see a repeat of last years fabled campus wide power outage/snowball fight?

Severe Weather Warning (11/15)

Saturday, November 15th, 2008

For those fortunate enough to already have Skidmore alerts enabled on their cellular devices, you have probably taken the necessary precautions: rent a movie from the library and cancel all hot dates. For those of you who haven’t…

A “high wind advisory is in effect until 9pm this evening. Winds will be accompanied by heavy rain. Please secure (small objects*)”

*Small objects include, but are not limited to bikes, posters, and small children.

You have been warned.
