Tickets For Two Masters

The Skidmore Theater Department presents Carlo Goldoni’s The Servant of Two Masters its Thrust Stage Seminar Production for the Fall 2010 semester November 19 – 21 and December 2 – 5.

Skidmore’s unique production, translated and adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher and Paolo Emilio Landi and directed by Alma Becker, is a “cross between traditional Italian commedia dell’ arte and postmodern vaudeville. Goldoni’s classic pits the madcap servant, Truffaldino, against masters, mistresses, lovers, lawyers and multiple plates of meatballs. This will is a fast-moving comedy, complete with acrobatics, juggling, audience participation, and a li…beral dose of adlibs.”

$8 for students and seniors and $12 for errbody else.

An Evening With Alex Orthwein

Congratulations to Skidmore student Alex Orthwein for somehow convincing most of the theater department to produce a play about his life. An Evening With Alex Orthwein is a semi-non-fictional autobiographical play directed by Alex Dayan ’11 in which the cast and crew combined their real life experiences to write a show about a character—”Alex Orthwein”—who could represent the company as a whole. I’m just impressed this kid got the play named after him, stuff like that usually only happens to kings and weird barbers.

Performances are 8pm on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday in JKB’s Studio A. Email ebarker@skidmore.edu to reserve free seats.

If you forgot to see the Skidmore production of Claire Booth-Luce’s The Women before Thanksgiving you’re in luck because the fine production will return to the stage this week. Theater Dept. Presents: Boothe-Luce’s The Women

The theater department’s mainstage production of The Women by Clare Boothe-Luce opens this Friday. It stars 21 gorgeous women and 0 men as 40 characters in this fabulous satire about high society ladies in the 1930s. It’s funny, adorable and poignant all at the same time. We have shows at JKB on November 20th and 21st at 8PM, November 22nd at 2PM, December 3rd, 4th and 5th at 8PM and December 6th at 2PM.

“Stonewall” To Explore Riots and LGBT Issues

The Skidmore Theater Department and the Skidmore Pride Alliance are proud to present “Stonewall” an exploration of the Stonewall riots of the late 1960’s and LGBT issues of all kinds from the past 40 years. The Stonewall Company is a group of activist-artists lead by director Rob Hill ’09 showing their play Stonewall Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights at 8pm in Falstaff’s.

Around 1:20AM on June 28, 1969, police raided the Stonewall Inn as was routine of the time. The response was not unusual at first, but as patrons and passers-by alike gathered outside, a feeling of discontent grew into anger and ultimately hours of violent riots that continued periodically for six days.

The Stonewall Riots did not begin the gay liberation movement, but turned it from conservative to radical, from underground to in-your-face, from ineffective to successful.

30 Plays In 60 Minutes.

Remember that one time your cool friend from high school took you to Dim Sum in China Town and you thought to yourself “holy shit, this is amazing. I can eat all of this tiny stuff instead of one big meal? Why isn’t everything in life like this?” Well Smithereens is the play for you. Inspired by the Neo-Futurists, the 60 minute show is a Dim Sum-esque platter of 30 original two-minute plays performed in the order of the audience’s choosing. Plus it is totes free.

Performances are:
Wednesday, December 3rd at 8pm in Falstaffs
Friday, December 5th at 8pm and 10pm in Studio A (upstairs in the JKB)

A little birdie (facebook message) told me that Friday’s 8pm show has already filled up but there are still seats available for tomorrow and for Friday’s 10pm show. We suggest making a reservation by emailing stage manager Melinda Brown (mbrown@skid).

The Exonerated

Ali Schultz ’09 is directing a Skidmore production of the Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen play “The Exonerated.”

“Culled from interviews, transcripts, letters, and court records, The Exonerated retells the stories of several individuals wrongly accused of crimes and sentenced to death. Although eventually proven innocent and released, these five people recount how they persevered despite the unimaginable horrors they were put through by the American justice system.”
