Camper, Los Elk, and The Hilarys @ Putnam Den

Wednesday, December 12th, 2012

I could look at this aesthetically appealing poster almost as long as I can stare into Stephen Yell‘s eyes. Which is forever.

It’s the last day of classes, so get ready to rage/slit your wrists as study week looms on the horizon.

Hopefully you’re in the former camp, because tomorrow night, beloved Skidmore minstrels Camper, Los Elk, and The Hilarys will be playing at Putnam Den. A portion of the proceeds will go to Sandy relief efforts, so you can feel good about yourself for paying $14 for two 40s at the bar and puking behind the Saratoga Springs Public Library as tears stream down your face and townies wandering over from Ice House laugh and throw solo cups full of Coors at you. Is this a true story? Maybe.

ALSO, admission gets you into the Pony Club event following the show.

FemFest 2012

Wednesday, November 28th, 2012

Ironic phalluses?

This weekend is FemFest, a fundraiser organized by the American Studies class “Disorderly Women.” The three-day event is intended to raise money for Camp Little Notch, an all-girl’s camp in upstate New York. According to one of the organizers, Matt Schonfeld:

“They promote an all inclusive, diverse environment for girls and when low income families can’t pay for their girls to go, the camp eats the cost. We’re trying to raise campership so more girls can go.”

FemFest will kick off tomorrow night at Falstaff’s with a Battle of the Bands featuring Skinny White Folk, Good Neighbor, The Hilarys, and Bo Peep and the Funk Sheep. On Friday, spoken word artist Mayda Del Valle will do poetry in the Spa. On Saturday, there will be a silent auction at the Tang, featuring stuff from local businesses, with musical accompaniment from the Nancy Walker Trio and Skidmore’s MaryLeigh Roohan. Later that night, Micia Mosley will perform her one-woman piece Where My Girls At? A Comedic Look at Black Lesbians in the Spa.

Packed schedule, so check it out and give these guys your money. It’s a good cause and shit and FUCK THE PATRIARCHY.

Battle of the Bands: Thursday November 29, 9pm @ Falstaff’s
Mayda Del Valle: Friday November 30, 10pm @ Spa
Silent Auction: Saturday December 1, 4pm @ Tang
Micia Mosley: Saturday December 1, 9pm @ Spa

Facet/Downbeat Lounge @ the Tang

RIIIIIIIIIIIIIICOLAAAAAAAAA

This Thursday night at the Tang is going to be a THRILLING, two-part extravaganza. First, Terry Adkins’ Lone Wolf Recital Corps will be performing music and spoken word pieces in collaboration with Skidmore students, as part of Facets.

The Tang describes the group as:

“A performance unit with a revolving membership of multi-disciplinary artists and musicians, the Lone Wolf Recital Corps was founded by Adkins in 1986 and has performed widely, including the Institute of Contemporary Art, London, American Academy in Rome, New World Symphony in Miami, and MoMA PS1, New York.”

Following the Adkins performance, the Tang will be “be completely transformed into a low key music lounge with two stages, a mini bar, and intimate seating,” inspired by Adkins’ Tang exhibit, Recital.

Several student bands/musicians will be performing, including:

No booze, but hors d’oeuvres and culture. Don’t complain.

*Edgy name!
