Blurry Bike, 2011

If you’re interested in sustainable development and micro-finance (and free food), make your way to the Spa tomorrow night at 5:00pm. The Skidmore Bicycles Against Poverty franchise will be holding an info session for anybody interested in traveling to Uganda this summer, as well as showing a clip from their documentary, and providing like $500 worth of sandwiches from the aptly titled Sangwych.

BAP does really great work fostering fiscal responsibility in rural Uganda, by selling bicycles to people who desperately need them in their day-to-day routine. Learn more about it here, and hit up Spa tomorrow.

On Campus: CollegeHumor Live

Saturday, August 15th, 2009

An adroit reader wrote in and tipped us off to the fact that the CollegeHumor Live Show will be on campus our first Friday back at school, and after a quick email exchange with our source on the inside we can report that yes, Late Night will be hosting a CollegeHumor Live Show with Dan Levy, TJ Miller and Jake and Amir. Last year the Spa was serious about bringing hilarious comedians to campus, a tradition they have thankfully decided to uphold.

Like all good things (love, friendship, hotel shampoo et al.) this show is free

Live Music at Late Night

Saturday, April 11th, 2009

Poster by Maggie Luckhardt '12

Before Diva stop by the Spa for a delicious quesadilla and some live music. Nat Osborn & The Free Radicals, Jonny B. Goodman & The Sound Store, and Skidmore’s own Julia Nunes are all slated to perform tonight beginning at 8:30. Nunes, who has recently been opening for Ben Folds, is perhaps most famous for her YouTube videos and has an album “I Wrote These” available on her website. Jonny B. Goodman and the Sound Store recently released their first album, “The Weathercaster,” and is making his Skidmore debut. Osborn, a ‘08 Skidmore graduate, is back on campus to perform one last time before band mates Lyle Divinsky, Mike Kaplan, Andrew Clinard and Josh Brahen graduate. (fbook)

Bingo for Sex Toys

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

This Thursday a geriatric favorite gets a new twist as the V-Day campaign hosts Bingo for Sex Toys in the Spa (perhaps you’ve noticed their eyecatchingly modern signs).  Thursday’s $300 prize pool features fuzzy handcuffs, vibrators and “other fun stuff.” Come by and play: 2 bingo cards cost $3, 4 cards for $5, proceeds go to support V-Day campaign and will be donated to the local women’s shelter to help stop violence against women.

We Have A Celebrity Crush On Aziz Ansari

Sunday, October 26th, 2008

Tonight, the giant human, internet celebrity, and sometimes stand up comedian, Aziz Ansari, came to the SPA and told jokes. Aziz chose to begin his Glow In The Dark Tour at Skidmore College when he realized the show would be easy laughs seeing as he is ten to fifteen times funnier than anyone we have ever heard tell jokes before. After the show Aziz signed posters, a few SPA napkins and gave the Skidmore Unofficial investigative journalism team an exclusive interview that you can read after the jump…

Debate III: Ayers of Confidence

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

The third and final presidential debate is scheduled for 9 pm tonight. Will Gentleman Johnny take the gloves off and bring up kinda-former-terrorist-but-nowadays-respected-Chicago-civic-leader Bill Ayers? How obvious will it be that Obama is just trying to run out the clock? Just what the hell is ACORN, anyways? For the (undoubtedly canned) answers to these questions and more, head by the Spa and check it out.

(But probably just get a couple of 40s, some buddies, and watch it in your room while listening closely for the phrases “maverick,” “change,” “last eight years” and “my friends.”)

Skidmore to New Orleans

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

While our decidedly cold and sepulchral college may seem planets away from the Gulf Coast, one group of Skidmore students is looking to bridge that gap. Skidmore to New Orleans is a group of students trying to raise money to send as many as 30 freshmen to those areas that were pretty much decimated by Katrina, Rita and the racist policies of the past couple of years. In the past, Skidmore has sponsored several students who have traveled to the area to volunteer, we’re pretty sure we’ve caught some of the non-college sanctioned trips as well.

Anyhoo, these fine folks are hosting a party this Friday night in the SPA at 10pm to raise some serious funds. Judging by the classy signs the party will have all your favorite Mardi Gras accoutrements including beads and lots of purple and gold shit. While entry is free donations are encouraged.

Rumors of Aziz

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

Rumor has it that comedian Aziz Ansari is headed towards campus. According to the “Late Night at the SPA” website (yes, that’s a real thing) we should “keep our eyes open” for Aziz this semester. After a year of mediocre performers and low attendance the SPA seems to be stepping its game up. Ansari was scheduled to perform on campus last year but canceled at the last moment, because he is “totes too busy to perform for a bunch of Ivy League waitlisters” (he didn’t say that, but he was probably thinking it).

Don’t know who Aziz Ansari is, and feel like an indie fish out of proverbial indie water? peep his website yo…
