Skid Alum Nominated For Grammy

Skidmore alum Emily Lazar, chief mastering engineer at New York studio The Lodge, has been nominated for a Grammy for her work on the album Wasting Light by Guitar Hero band Foo Fighters. The album has been nominated in six categories, including Album of the Year, and apparently it was recorded completely analog, meaning no computers were used.

I didn’t realize the Foo Fighters were still producing music, but that’s pretty cool! That means we’re all only like three degrees separated from Kurt Cobain.

In other news, you now have a reason to watch/care about the Grammys.

Can’t Wait to Graduate!

Yesterday I was dreading graduation. Yes, it’s months away but, good G-d, I’m graduating college in 6 months with no discernable skills or marketable talents. Spending my afternoons in bed staring at this recent New York Times graphic didn’t help either.

Check out this terrifying quote from ‘an unemployed man in the southwest’, “[I'm] worried because I have three god kids that will need jobs in the next 6 years. Don’t know what to tell them. Go into debt for college?” Holy shit, this guy birthed 3 gods and he’s worried about their job prospects?

Needless to say I was relieved when this video of a Skidmore Alum got sent my way and I realized it’s not hard to get on TV because obviously once I get on TV I can use some networking skills and BAM, reality TV show.

So, according to this video when I sit in class stumbling, stuttering, trying to formulate my thoughts on the uh merits of uh Georg Lukács’ uh Marxist-ism, uh Modernist theory, I am simply preparing myself for the real world where uh…uh…uhsorry…I dunno when is the next Real World?

Dizzy Peoples Are Zombies!

So you can say 'I knew them when'

And by that by we mean they have returned, this time with a podcast on iTunes called ‘Dizzy Peoples Radio‘.

Self-proclaimed as “Skidmore’s favorite graduated comedy group” and endorsed by us here at SkidmoreUnofficial.com, these fellas have been filming hilarious sketches for a while now.  They make the kind of hilarious videos that you might have once tried to make with your friends, but that you abandoned after realizing how much time and effort it would take to make it actually funny. Thankfully they see theirs through!

They’re broadcasting from LA, which means they’re this close to making it, and probably explains the concept behind this latest video by fellow comedy group Younger Statesmen (that’s right, you get a bonus comedy group suggestion!). Check out Dizzy Peoples video archives at their website and have some laughs (hint: they were dead the whole time!).
