The End of Days.

Thursday, September 1st, 2011

It’s September 1st!

Summer is over and that means it’s time to get this site going and remember what my major is.

Today I logged back into the registrar to see what classes I had enrolled in and apparently last spring, while in a caffeine-induced coma, I thought it would be prudent to “balance my schedule” and not to care about taking classes on Friday.

What a mistake.

If I figured anything out over the summer it was that taking four classes in a row on Tuesdays and Thursdays was the best schedule I ever had. I learned the fastest routes between buildings, the exact weight of change for a coffee and something about History and Anthropology.

By the end of the semester I was a lean (strung out), mean (irritable), academic machine (chronic napper).

Anyway welcome back to skidmoreunofficial. We have a new staff ready to bust the proverbial nut all over this site, PLUS new pages to be added, sweet merch to be sold, and contests to be won.

Stay tuned, can’t wait to see all your pretty faces back in Saratoga.

1…2…3…Withdraw

Thursday, April 9th, 2009

Just a reminder that tomorrow is the last day to withdraw from any classes without the consequence of grade penalty. Instead of a big fat “F” showing itself on your report card, withdrawing by tomorrow will result in a “W” (for winner, maybe). “Withdrawal without grade penalty” sheets are available on the second floor of Starbuck outside of the Registrar’s office, and require the signatures of the class’s teacher, as well as your advisor. Make sure that if you decide to drop a class last minute that you maintain a “full-time” student’s worth of credits (a minimum of 12). If not, you may want to make sure that any scholarships hinging upon your full-time status don’t freak out. Also, you only get two of these withdrawals during your Skidmore career, so keep that in mind when you decide to drop all of your classes in the hopes to maximize your outside green time.

Pretty New Page Pleases People's Perspective

Pretty New Page Pleases People's Perspective

As many of you know, this week is ADVISING WEEK, which means it’s time to pick classes for next semester and meet with that smart person who teaches your classes. Although most of you probably won’t get the classes you want due to the new waitlist policy, you’ll be surprised by the new Registrar site. It’s new and nifty, and the academic calendar is conveniently placed on the page.

Also, according the calendar, the final “withdrawal without grade penalty” date is tomorrow, April 3rd. You only get 2 of these handy withdrawals here at Skidmore, so use them wisely.

Registrar Looks To Reduce Waitlisting

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

The Registrar’s Office just sent around a nice little email about Fall 2009 registration. A rough Master Schedule is available online and changes will be added as the are made; also I’m sure an addendum will come out soon enough. Take a respite from your taxing Spring Break (read: MTV and pudding snacks) and have a looksee at next semester’s offerings.

The Registrar’s Office has also made changes to the permissible number of maximum credits that is going to cause some pretty serious changes to class registration process. Looking to lower the number of people squatting on waitlists the Registrar has lowered the maximum enrollment from 22 to 18 credits.

This means students will now need to leave room in their schedules for waitlisted courses; whereas previously students could be simultaneously enrolled in a full schedule and on the waitlist for several classes. The Registrar’s new policy will end waitlist squatting and force students to count waitlisted classes toward their credit totals.  For example: if you are waitlisted for a 3 credit course, then you need to have a total enrollment of 15 credits maximum.  If you wish to overload (19 or 20 credits) you can complete an overload application on the Registrar website.

How do you feel about the Registrar’s changes? Let us know in the comments.

Grade’s Anatomy

Monday, January 5th, 2009

According to the Academic Calendar the deadline for faculty turning in grades was today at noon, meaning our first peak at those meaningless-affirmations-of-our-intelligence we’ve all been lusting over is just around the corner, so close in fact that I can almost taste them. If you head over to the Registrar website you will see that they “anticipate having grades available for viewing the morning of January 7th.”

When they become available you can  find your grades in the Oracle Student Thingy on the Registrar website.   Apparently there is no rushing these things.

Spring Semester Class Schedule Available

Saturday, October 18th, 2008

While you guys were trying to decide where to have your parents take you to dinner tonight (we recommend Hattie’s), the registrar sent out enrollment timeslots and posted the master schedule. Let the timeslot complaints begin. Educate yourselves here.
