EP Review – CAMPO’s “Fifty Seven”

Saturday, March 4th, 2017

Small but mighty “Campo” has been on the Skidmore music scene for a couple of years now. Whether you’re an OG Fangirl, or you just found out that they’re not the ones who confiscated your bong from your room that one time, you probably know that they dropped their first EP today on Bandcamp! If you haven’t heard, it is definitely worth a listen. Emie and Ethan’s etherial voices mix with Paul and Neale’s bomb guitar skills on top of Stolman’s soulful drum beats that make you want to relive your pulse rejection all over again. Campo features a smooth indie-rock aesthetic both visually and auditory, perfect for off-campus basement jamming  If you’re into it check them out live this Friday at Putnam Den with Skidmore legends, Los Elk.

Casino Blues Bash w/ Bo Peep, Maryleigh Roohan, and More

So there’s been a lot of controversy around this town about plans to build a casino in downtown Saratoga. Save Saratoga is a “community-organized opposition group to the siting of a Las Vegas-style casino in the city of Saratoga Springs.” Save Saratoga doesn’t like casinos, they just like good music, and so, the nonprofit dedicating to maintain Saratoga’s thriving, artful, and old-time American small town vibes is putting on a show. Cosigned by Putnam Den, Save Saratoga Presents five local bands, including Skidmore’s own Bo Peep and The Funk Sheep, as well as alum Maryleigh Roohan to perform in support of our community’s fight against the casino.

The plan is to wear  RED to show your support. And give money. And buy things.

Bo Peep to Open for Real Band

Friday, February 14th, 2014
F U N K

F U N K

Skidmore funk orchestra Bo Peep and the Funk Sheep is set to take the stage this Saturday at Putnam Den.  Their first show of the semester has them opening up for the super funky Sam Kininger Band.  A Berklee Boston alum, Sam’s played sax with Soulive, Lettuce, Wyclef Jean, and the Dave (bro) Matthews Band.  The lineup Saturday also includes Nikki Glaspie, drummer for Dumpstaphunk FUCKIN BEYONCÉ!!!!  That means Beyoncé, and therefore Blue Ivy, could be there.  Never say never…

In all seriousness, this is some of the most serious funk to grace Saratoga Springs in years, and if you enjoy dancing your ass off I highly suggest you make it to the show.

Doors: 8:30pm
Show: 9:30pm

Ages: 18+

Tickets: $10 ($15 if under 21)

Los Elk Part II Available Now

Wednesday, November 6th, 2013
Put your antlers up.

Put your antlers up.

This past weekend, Los Elk performed their first show of the semester in an undisclosed Clinton Street basement. Los Elk–Skidmore’s four piece alt., indie, dance rock group consisting of all 2015’ers–is arguably the most widely respected band on campus. The Elkies lead Skidmore’s music scene with 1,140 “likes” on Facebook. As pathetic as it may be, that’s a pretty considerable marker of fame and notoriety in 2013 and it proves that Los Elk is a budding band with a growing following not only on Skidmore’s campus but also in the greater Tri-State and New England areas. Last week’s show was a celebration ushering in the release of the second half of Los Elk’s debut self-titled album.

Skidmore Unofficial’s Official Venue Rundown

Thursday, August 29th, 2013

So you’ve finally made it to college, Class of 2036. Congratulations! Music is a HUGE part of college, right? I mean your parents met at a Grateful Dead show during their freshman year at NYU and they’re the happiest couple you know, right? Skidmore and Saratoga Springs each offer plenty of great opportunities to catch some amazing (and some terrible) music. So which will it be, young Jedi? Check out Skidmore Unofficial’s Official Venue Rundown of the best and worst places to hear music.

Behemoth Music Festival @ Putnam Den

Thursday, April 4th, 2013
HEY

My, what an illegible font

This Friday, Putnam Den is hosting a whole bunch of bands for something called Behemoth Music Festival. Should be fun. Here’s the full list of acts:

Most of these bands are tolerable to great (including one I absolutely despise, guess which one), but you should honestly just go for Total Slacker, featuring the awesome Zoe Brecher ’12 on drums. They’re the shit and they’re about to make it big. Go for Los Elk too, if you’re not sick of them yet (just kidding, boys! Love the new album).

Tickets are $10 for the 21 and uppers and $15 for the poor souls who can’t drink yet.
