Diva Night Returns

Saturday, April 11th, 2009

After a several year hiatus Pride Alliance’s Diva Night is returning to campus tonight at 10pm. Tonight’s party is a reincarnation of the infamous, and unfortunately defunct, DIVA . DIVA (notice the capitals) began as a gender-bending event sponsored by the Skidmore Pride Alliance and grew into a chaotic night of cross-dressing, gender bending and lots of people wearing very little clothing. Characterized by stripping contests, professional drag queens and porn screenings DIVA became one of the most anticipated nights of the year, easily rivaling Moorebid’s debauchery. After a rash of freshman hospitalizations the yearly party was forced to shut down and hasn’t been resurrected until now.

Tonight’s party is free, Wonderland themed, and costumes are encouraged.  The Facebook event promises the return of the “exhibitionist booth from Spectrum” which I don’t understand but sounds promising.  (fbook)

Junior Ring EXTRAVAGANZA!!!1!

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

There’s nothing like coming back to campus from home with your family and friends to deal with term papers and sanctions issued by Res Life for having too many chairs, a coffee pot, beer bottles, and a disassembled bed in your room (…damn). That’s why this weekend is the perfect time to put off work and party like it’s 1920 at the Class of 2010′s “Junior Ring.” There will be events all weekend, and a semi-formal dance Friday night from 11-3am. Looks like this year’s theme is going to be the roaring twenties, so all you Gatsby’s out there can finally make your move on your Daisy’s. Since it was during the twenties that jazz music gained its popularity, we can’t make any assumptions as to whether the DJ will be playing Weezy or Dizzy (Gillespie), but in the spirit of the twenties, your request for scat music will probably be granted.

Stop by the SGA booth in Case now through Friday between 12-4pm for $3 tickets (they take the Skid ID YAY!) or buy $5 tix at the door. Remember that if you’re over 21 and want to get your drink on at the dance you need to get a campus event card—two IDs are now required for a drink. The drinks are quite steep: $4 per dose.

The complete schedule for this weekend’s festivities after the jump…

Skidmore to New Orleans

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

While our decidedly cold and sepulchral college may seem planets away from the Gulf Coast, one group of Skidmore students is looking to bridge that gap. Skidmore to New Orleans is a group of students trying to raise money to send as many as 30 freshmen to those areas that were pretty much decimated by Katrina, Rita and the racist policies of the past couple of years. In the past, Skidmore has sponsored several students who have traveled to the area to volunteer, we’re pretty sure we’ve caught some of the non-college sanctioned trips as well.

Anyhoo, these fine folks are hosting a party this Friday night in the SPA at 10pm to raise some serious funds. Judging by the classy signs the party will have all your favorite Mardi Gras accoutrements including beads and lots of purple and gold shit. While entry is free donations are encouraged.

Following Girl Talk’s (Gregg Gillis) performance on Friday night, the artist was spotted assisting keg stands at the East Ave residence.

Slippery When Wet (Be Careful)

Friday, September 19th, 2008

Tonight,  SEC will host its bi-yearly blowout bash, building the basketball court into a bangin’ ballroom.

Rotgut refreshments will realize risky ramifications in the rusty reminiscences of the evening.

(You know what I mean?)

Please:

1) Avoid putting vodka in a water bottle. This will prevent drama from developing later in the evening.

2) Don’t steal anything without permission. You may be drunk, but the police probably won’t be.

3) Don’t be a loner. Cover your boner.

4) When it rains, it pours. It’s going to be slippery out there tonight. One wrong move, and you may fall on your ass.

Cheers, and consider the anniversary of the First Battle of Saratoga.
