The Outing Club has made this cute video to share their plans for an elementary/middle/high school outdoor adventure and personal growth program, and it rocks. What’s more, they might get a ton of funding for it (thanks, Polartec!), so that they can actually take middle school crazies out to the woods where they belong and let them vent the angst by hiking and swimming and stuff, thus making middle school suck less.

There is a contest to pick the winner, and the Outing Club will need your votes to make this happen. The winning team will get $10,000 from Polartec to fund its outdoor program and up to 100 Patagonia fleeces!! Warm and well-funded. We’re up against Lyon College, Princeton, and Northeastern, so if that rekindles dormant rivalries for some of you, great, that can inspire you to vote.

To help out, log on using the fbook, like the page and vote once a day for Skidmore (it doesn’t hurt to be clear…). Voting goes until Jan. 31st, so that’s like 53 votes x everyone in the Skidmore network = tons of votes. Do your part.

In high school, among my friends, clothing was a point of serious pride. Born out of disdain for doing laundry and love of Seinfeld, we decided to hold our own contest. Who could go the longest without changing clothes?  The rules were simple,  no changing clothes and no doing laundry.

You may think you’re up on all the tricks but I’m here to shower you with knowledge.  First off, Febreze is for plebs and shaking your dirty clothes around in a box with a dryer sheet is just dumb. Second, don’t be obnoxious and stick your jeans in the freezer.  What do you know about laying socks on a radiator to literally melt away the odor?  What do you know about rubbing freshly ground nutmeg into your clothes? Do you even think that burying your clothes overnight, like a squirrel, might work? No, probably not.

So next week I’ll definitely be melting faces (with my stank) as I participate in the Outing Club’s 5 Days of Flannel.  On any given day, approximately 100% of the student body here wears flannel, so this event should have pretty decent participation.  Outing club representatives will be stationed in Case between 12-1 next week, handing out “treats/prizes/cool things” to those sporting flannel.

Good Ol' Fashioned Fun

Remember two years ago when god looked down upon our tiny campus of adultery and marijuana smoking and attempted to smite us with a blackout. Remember how we shook our fists at god and turned his blackout into the most epic snowball fight in the entire history of the world?

Remember how out of nowhere there were Tallboys of Bud Heavy everywhere and how your friend pulled a joint out of his pocket and all of a sudden all your homework disappeared behind a curtain of falling snowballs? Remember how fun it was to make and break alliances at whim? Remember when me and all my hipster friends totally won the snowball fight against the jocks just like in the movies? YEAH?

Well the Outing Club wants to do that again. 8pm. Case Green.

The spring semester’s first Outing Club meeting is tonight (1/28) RESCHEDULED FOR THURSDAY (1/29) at 8pm in Emerson Auditorium. This is a general meeting where the club will discuss upcoming events, talk about club leadership training, and have sign ups for first come first served trips.
