EP Review – CAMPO’s “Fifty Seven”

Saturday, March 4th, 2017

Small but mighty “Campo” has been on the Skidmore music scene for a couple of years now. Whether you’re an OG Fangirl, or you just found out that they’re not the ones who confiscated your bong from your room that one time, you probably know that they dropped their first EP today on Bandcamp! If you haven’t heard, it is definitely worth a listen. Emie and Ethan’s etherial voices mix with Paul and Neale’s bomb guitar skills on top of Stolman’s soulful drum beats that make you want to relive your pulse rejection all over again. Campo features a smooth indie-rock aesthetic both visually and auditory, perfect for off-campus basement jamming  If you’re into it check them out live this Friday at Putnam Den with Skidmore legends, Los Elk.

Listen To Skidmore Bands For Free On Mellodi

Thursday, March 27th, 2014
So many Skidmore bands, so little time.

So many Skidmore bands, so little time.

So maybe this isn’t news, but it is a really cool feature of a site that not many people have heard about. Mellodi claims to be the “home of all music made by artists in college.” Now, I thought the home of college music was mouse shit-laden basements and trailers, but Mellodi begs to differ. But regardless, Mellodi is a free streaming site for college bands across the country. As long as you have an email account that ends in .edu you can send your music to Mellodi and add it to your school’s catalogue.

Well, Skidmore has one and for people who can’t decide what Falstaff’s gig to go to, or who they want to play Funday, or whatever other important Skidmore music scene-related decisions you have to make, Mellodi is a great resource.  It’s got everything from Jesse Hardman’s solo work, to the newly named Otter’s (the artists previously known as Beardo) recent single, to Los Elk, to Psymon Spine, and so on.

Check it out and support Skidmore music by listening to your favorite artists for free at Mellodi.

New Bo Peep and the Funk Sheep Single

Thursday, April 18th, 2013

Skidmore’s resident white-boy-funk band Bo Peep and the Funk Sheep have just released their new single, “Little League.” It’s really fun and free, and there’s a bonus cover of “Crosstown Traffic,” which totally kills.

Camper & Trophy Wives @ Putnam Den

Wednesday, April 10th, 2013

DO YOU SMELL WHAT THE ROCK IS COOKIN’? Paella. He’s cooking paella.

Big weekend for music. On Friday, the brave, hardworking lads of Camper and Trophy Wives will be playing at Putnam Den, a fun little prelude to Dirty Projectors on Saturday.

The show is FREE, but it’s $7 if you’re a jabroni/under 21.

The HAP Album Has Happed

Wednesday, April 3rd, 2013

HAP—the sentient haunted carnival that’s been making the rounds all year—has just released their debut album, Corners. It’s basically the aural manifestation of the feeling you get when you eat too much Halloween candy, which is to say, it’s fucking insane, and you should download it RIGHT NOW.

Good job, gents.

New HAP Single

Wednesday, March 20th, 2013

The weirdos of HAP have released their new single, “Summertime Shuffle,” on Bandcamp. It sounds like the creeping, slithery soundtrack to a milkshake nightmare and it’s great. Check it out or be a square.

New Los Elk Single: “Peter Pan”

Wednesday, February 27th, 2013

Check out the new Los Elk single released yesterday. It’s pretty fun and bouncy and you can dance to it and it’s all about Peter Pan, complete with references to J.M. Barrie’s dark history of alleged pederasty (not really).

New Bedfellows Single

Saturday, January 26th, 2013

We love promoting Skidmore music here, and this new release—”Validated Native”—from Bedfellows is no exception. The band is made up of Mike Dougherty, Marena Lai, Brett Hartman, and Chris Sicilian (all ’13), and they sound like a choir of angels.

Worthy successors to indie folk darlings Bailiwick, indeed.

Mugsy Boges Releases “Spent Nights” Video

Friday, January 4th, 2013

Hey man. Hope you’re doing well. I just want you to know that I really value our friendship, and I’m so sorry we’ve drifted apart these last few weeks.

Anyway, the cool kids of Mugsy Boges have released this new music video, “Spent Nights,” to ring in the new year. I hope this video is a prelude to what 2013 holds in store, because I for one embrace this dystopic, drug-fueled nightmare that will define the semester I graduate from college.

The track is taken from Mugsy Boges’ dope EP Sangfroid, so check it out today.
