FREE FOOD: Jacob & Anthony’s @ SkidShop

Monday, October 8th, 2012

Tasteful Design!

Last week, we promoted the Jacob & Anthony’s Skidmore Burger contest and I wowed you all with my recipe for the GREATEST FUCKING BURGER YOU WILL EVER HAVE THE PRIVILEGE OF RAMMING DOWN YOUR EAT-HOLE. Well, the God of Cheapness is smiling down on us, because tomorrow, J&A will be outside the SkidShop giving away free food and hyping their contest.

The SkidShop and freebies go together like Walt and Jesse and if you’re on campus tomorrow afternoon, there’s really no reason to pass this up.

Clams and Fun at D-Hall

Tuesday, September 25th, 2012

Piles of that shit

Everybody loves free D-Hall and this Thursday looks like it’s going to be a real winner. First off, there’s Clambake Night, which is extravagant and comped for all students. If you close your eyes, you can pretend that you’ve been invited out to Hyannis for the weekend with the Kennedys (try not to mention Chappaquiddick to Ted Jr.)

Also, Brooklyn-based YouTube chefs/band-thing, the Brothers Green, will be doing a cooking demo on the DIY grills at D-Hall. According to their PR lady, Mike and Josh Greenfield:

“Have blended their differing styles and palates to form a unique attitude towards cooking. Where Mike takes a classically controlled approach, Josh adds in his free-form flair. Often Josh’s band will be playing in the background as the brothers put their finishing touches on their dishes. In 2010, they began throwing underground dinner parties in their Brooklyn loft, which quickly gained notice among local and industry notables. They have competed in a burger showdown on Rachael Ray and cooked with a number of Brooklyn’s top chefs.”

Overlooking the fact that the people in their videos are absolutely insufferable and their “underground dinner parties” probably follow the Eyes Wide Shut model, the food looks pretty goddamn delicious. Free samples are included.

Thursday, September 27 in D-Hall @ 5-7:30pm

Club Fair Rears Its Head Once More

Friday, September 7th, 2012

These guys look like they could be some cool new friends

Today is the annual club fair, where Skidmore students eat free candy and agree to receive emails they will never read. Are you interested in meeting Jewish girls and eating tzimmes on Friday nights? Join Hillel! Are you funny and like attention? Check out the many sketch/improv comedy troupes! Do you enjoy being naked? Try Outing Club! Whatever your interests, Skidmore has the club for you. Alright, college!

Also, here’s a great prank: take one person (for example, Stephen Yell) and sign him or her up for as many clubs as you possibly can. They will hate you and it will be really funny.

Friday, September 7, on Case Green @ 3-5pm

Free Burritos For The Environmentally Conscious

Sunday, February 12th, 2012

(Not an actual burrito)

So as y’all may or may not remember, Skidmore Unplugged is ongoing during the month of February. To help promote the event, we just received an email informing us of a great free food opportunity for people who know their shit about the environment.*

Starting tomorrow until the end of Skidmore Unplugged, the guys who run the Facebook event will be posting some “eco-related trivia.” First person to get it right wins a coupon for a free Chipotle burrito.

Check out the Facebook page here.

First Photo Club Meeting Tonight

Monday, January 30th, 2012

I'm sure Bob Capa would approve of free pizza and film

The first general meeting of the Photography Club will take place tonight at 8pm in Bolton 282. I’m told they’ll be giving out free pizza and film, a combination to make any aspiring shutterbug wet his or her pants in glee.

Do people still use film? I thought it had gone the way of VHS and phonographs. Kudos to the Photo Club for keeping a dead medium alive.

The Club Fair Returns

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

Oh shit, someone's signing up for SEC!

This Friday, January 27, the Club Fair will once again take over the inside of Case from 3:30 to 5pm, where you will be coerced into signing up for clubs you don’t really care about by people you barely know/cute girls. You will also inevitably shove pounds of free candy into your face.

Friday, 3:30 – 5pm @ Case Center

Blurry Bike, 2011

If you’re interested in sustainable development and micro-finance (and free food), make your way to the Spa tomorrow night at 5:00pm. The Skidmore Bicycles Against Poverty franchise will be holding an info session for anybody interested in traveling to Uganda this summer, as well as showing a clip from their documentary, and providing like $500 worth of sandwiches from the aptly titled Sangwych.

BAP does really great work fostering fiscal responsibility in rural Uganda, by selling bicycles to people who desperately need them in their day-to-day routine. Learn more about it here, and hit up Spa tomorrow.

Friday, December 9 @ 5-7pm – Spa

Sangwych at SkidShop

Tuesday, September 27th, 2011

The SkidShop continues to do this weird thing where they entice local business to come to campus and give away free food.  This seems great but how am I supposed to prepare for real life? I thought in real life there are no free rides and no money trees. I know college is supposed to challenge my preconceptions but SkidShop you are being ridiculous. It’s now guaranteed that come next year, I’ll be unemployed and starving.

Ok, so this new sandwich place in town, Sangwych will be coming tomorrow to the shop at 5 and giving away free samples. I’m looking at the menu right now and oh black betty bam ba lam.  These sangwychs are fire.  I’m about to smang the Bensonhurst sangwych super hard.

sangs all day long

Ujima Presents: Jazz Cafe

Friday, March 25th, 2011

Tonight is Ujima’s Jazz Cafe, featuring performances by the Skidmore Jazz Ensemble, various spoken word artists, and dancers. The event also has tons of free food catered by Dining Services, Max London’s and Plum Dandy.

If the allure of live music and free food wasn’t enough to lure you down to The Spa tonight you should know that the first 150 attendees will receive a free gift.

Student Art In The Library Opening

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

When I grow up I want to be filthy stinking rich. I want to live in a huge apartment in Manhattan and throw money out the windows. I want to be like Scrooge McDuck and dive into piles of gold coins. My secret plan to accomplish this is to become an art dealer and that is why I am going to go to the opening reception of the new Student Art In The Library Exhibit.

I am going to schmooze and rub elbows with Skidmore’s incredibly talented stable of artists until they foolishly come to trust me and then I will buy their artwork at measly prices—that is, if I cannot charm it out of them for free—and sell it on the international market for incredible profit.  Join me Wednesday March 9th at 5pm.
