Jesse Hardman Drops New Album

Monday, January 26th, 2015

As always: fuck yeah.

He’s been teasing it for a while now, but Jesse Hardman‘s third full-length release, Sojourn, has finally hit the viral shelves.

You may have witnessed Hardman’s many performances at Lively Lucy’s open mic nights—of which he might officially be the viceroy by this point–as well as his Beatlemore performance’s of the past two years. He’s made a great name for himself both as a singer-songwriter and a musician, sporting killer vibrato and a smart blend of blues, indie, and folk.

Sojourn combines the lyrical storytelling of Hardman’s previous efforts with a new full band sound and complex production values. It features nine new tracks (which features a fucking beautiful song written entirely in German), as well as a full-band version of his “Misery” cover from last year’s Beatlemore. And it’s all arranged and performed by the man in leather himself. (No, not that one.)

Give the album a listen on Hardman’s Bandcamp. It’s been a long time in the making, and the payoff is very much worth it. And stay posted on further developments from Hardman and his many projects.

Jesse Hardman Debuts New Single; New Album Coming Later This Month

Monday, September 8th, 2014

Folk and blues singer-songwriter Jesse Hardman ’15 has released a new track called “For You I Sing the Blues,” the lead single from his new album Sojourn, which is set for a late September release. This will mark Hardman’s third full-length release following his acoustic folk album For a Love, released in February of this past year.

I'm not a leather kinda guy by any means, but I want that fucking jacket.

I’m not a leather kinda guy by any means, but I want that jacket.

Hardman’s a regular favorite at Lively Lucy’s monthly open mic nights, and he’s garnered plenty of attention after playing a handful of live acoustic sets on campus. If this new track is any indication, however, Hardman seems to be taking his style in a new direction, as he’s traded in his acoustic guitar for a full-band sound and embraced his roots in the blues. Hardman’s unrivaled mastery of the genre is incredibly apparent, yet he’s offered a more contemporary take on it, as the track features a killer groove that will prove impossible not to dance to when Hardman begins playing it live with a full band.

Check out Jesse Hardman on Facebook and keep posted for more updates on what’s shaping up to be another strong full-length effort.

MaryLeigh Roohan on South Park Green TONIGHT (9/1)

Monday, September 1st, 2014

Skidmore alum MaryLeigh Roohan ’13 will be playing a show tonight at 7:00 on South Park Green as part of first-year orientation. Described by David Malachowski of the Times Union as “A strong, smart songwriter with a lovely voice”  in his review of her 2013 album Skin & Bone, MaryLeigh might be one of the more talented singer-songwriters to come out of the Skidmore music scene in recent years.

Marry me.

Featuring an infectious brand of indie-folk/alternative-country, a memorable and powerful voice, and heartbreaking lyricism, MaryLeigh is sure to put on a fantastic show to help kick-off the fall semester in the best way possible, so stop by South Park Green and support an incredibly talented member of the Skidmore community. (In the case of rain, the show will be held at Falstaffs.)

Thorn & Shout @ Falstaff’s

Wednesday, October 10th, 2012

CAW CAW

Tomorrow night, folkies Thorn & Shout will be playing at Falstaff’s. They’re kind of like a more depressing Bailiwick, which is cool I guess. Skidmore singers/songwriters Will Kencel and Lisa Fierstein will be opening.

Also, it starts early, so you can still watch the VP debate/get into a fight at Paddock.
