Monday, August 24th, 2009This summer the former head of SkidTV Sarah Burns ’09 was able to tag along with Anthropology Professor Sue Bender and some of her students on a trip to the wilds of South Park, Colo. Bender has spent the past 7 summers excavating hunter-gatherer campsites around South Park . Burns has created this fantastic 50 minute documentary on the trip with voice-over work by Francesca Fanelli ’09 and music by Josh Cipolla ’09. Dividied into 3 parts here movie follows the students as they put their archeological lab skills to use—which is more than I can say I did this summer.
Second Annual Skidmore Film Festival Program
Wednesday, March 25th, 2009Remember Skidmore alumnus Scott Hamilton Kennedy ‘87? Well his documentary The Garden was nominated for an Academy Award this year and he’ll be on campus to screen his film during the second annual Skidmore Film Festival this week along with the Director of A Walk to Beautiful Mary Olive Smith.
The three-day film festival will feature critically acclaimed films, a chance to interact with the directors, and a student competition. Admission is free and open to the public.
- Thursday (3/26) 7pm—A Walk to Beautiful, followed by a Q&A with award-winning director and producer Mary Olive Smith. The documentary focuses on five Ethiopian women who have suffered serious injuries during childbirth as they embark to find healing.
- Friday (3/27) 7pm—Student filmmakers showcase their short films to compete for cash prizes. Winners will be determined by the audience.
- Saturday (3/28) 7pm—The Garden, followed by a Q&A with the director Scott Hamilton Kennedy, a 1987 Skidmore graduate. The film focuses on a 14-acre community garden in Los Angeles sold to a millionaire developer below fair-market value, highlighting the social injustice among the wealthy and less-fortunate. Features Danny Glover, Daryl Hannah, and Dennis Kucinch.

Renewal Project Screening
Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009As part of the ongoing Focus Skidmore initiative the Environmental Action Club and the Interfaith Council are co-sponsoring a screening of the documentary The RENEWAL Project, which will be followed by a facilitated discussion. The RENEWAL Project highlights various faith-based groups and their environmental efforts. The film will be shown Wednesday in the Spa at 8pm.
Outing Club Hosts Totally Rad Film Festival

The SOC will be hosting the touring selections from the Banff Mountain Film Festival “Radical Reels” this Saturday Sept. 20th. The festival features documentaries and short films about rock climbing, Base jumping, kite boarding, skiing and other radical things. Tickets are on sale all week in Case and cost 2 bucks.
