City Ballet To Perform ‘The Nutcracker’

SCB Dancers Perform Waltz of the Flowers

SCB Dancers Perform Waltz of the Flowers

Like all good little boys I used to dutifully accompany my Grandmother to the ballet each holiday season, a tradition I plan on reviving this year, albeit with less fidgeting rudely in my seat. The Saratoga City Ballet Company will be performing its 17th annual production of “The Nutcracker” Dec. 18 through 20 at the Dance Theater. The holiday favorite will be danced by SCB company members and younger students from the Saratoga City Ballet School.

Aside from being tantalizingly mature and snobbish the show is sure to impress, William Otto, a teacher at the school and a former soloist with the New York City Ballet, will perform as Herr Drosselmeyer. Tickets are  $15 for students but reservations are required; tickets can be reserved at www.saratogacityballet.com or www.brownpapertickets.com

Happy Thanksgiving

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

Pack up your bags and stash your stashes, it’s time for break. I’m pointing my car south and not stopping until my mouth is full of cranberry sauce. I extend my deepest condolences to those who have class today and hope you make it home to your respective suburban homes before morning.

Film Screening: FRESH

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

The Environmental Club presents FRESH, a film about the reinvention of the American food and agriculture system, at 7:30pm tonight in Gannett.

“FRESH celebrates the farmers, thinkers and business people across America who are re-inventing our food system. Forging healthier, sustainable alternatives, they offer a practical vision for a future of our food and our planet. FRESH addresses an ethos that has been sweeping the nation and is a call to action America has been waiting for. Among several main characters, FRESH features urban farmer and activist Will Allen, the recipient of MacArthur’s 2008 Genius Award; sustainable farmer and entrepreneur Joel Salatin, made famous by Michael Pollan’s book The Omnivore’s Dilemma; and supermarket owner David Ball, challenging our Wal-Mart dominated economy.”

some seniors enjoying inexpensive drinks in a fun and safe environment

Tonight is Senior Night downtown at Irish Times and it is going to be like MTV’s Spring Break 1996 but with more Irish people and less STDs. The Senior Class Council has reserved the entire top floor to ensure the cheapest prices on booze this side of brown-bagging a 40oz behind Stewarts (also not a bad way to spend a Thursday night).

Blue Moon Pints $3
Domestic Beer $3
Cocktails $5
Shot Specials $3
Hooking up with someone you’ve been crushing on since freshman year in the bathroom of a bar called Irish Times? Priceless.
