Whitman and Thomas

While the rest of us were sleeping off the Mare costume contest, the Skidmore College Board was meeting on the second floor of D-Hall to celebrate the passing of the gavel to a new board Chair.  Former Board Chair Suzanne Thomas ’62 handed over the position to Janet Whitman ’59 who read a resolution acknowledging her “deep admiration and respect” for Thomas’s work at the College. Thomas had previously held many positions here at Skidmore including 1962 Class Secretary, Chair of the Friends of the Presidents Committee, Chair of the National Leadership Gifts Committee for the Journey Campaign, member of the Tang Advisory Committee, and numerous other volunteer positions. Skidmore had also previously honored her with an Outstanding Service Award in 2002.

Whitman, who is the former mayor of Summit N.J., has served on the Skidmore College Board since 1994 and been chair, vice-chair, and member of numerous Board committees which worked to assist the college on such issues as infrastructure, budget and finance, compensation, special programs, trusteeship, strategic planning, academic affairs, and advancement, as well as the search committee that brought Glotzbach to the College in 2003.
