SYRA: Rich Lowry for Skidmore

Written by Editor-In-Chief on October 28th, 2008

Following such memorable speakers as Harvey Mansfield, who spoke about “Manliness,” and John Ashcroft, the only person on campus to ever confuse Barack Obama for Osama bin Laden, the Skidmore Young Republican Assembly (yeah…they’re a thing) will present this year’s first speaker, Richard Lowry, this Wednesday.

Don’t know Dick? Well, he has been the editor of “America’s most widely read and influential magazine and web site for Republican/conservative news, commentary, and opinion,” the National Review, since 1997. As a frequent guest on Fox News, as well as author of an Anti-Clinton book Legacy: Paying the Price for the Clinton Years, it should be no surprise when Lowry states his endorsement of McCain, nevermind his support for waterboarding. Keep in mind, this guy is famous. No big deal, but he is currently ranked as Keith Olbermann’s “Worst Person in the World.”

Show up prepared to hear some genuine, “out-of-the-box” conservative agenda that your socially liberal mind hasn’t been exposed to since you’ve arrived back in our 900-acre “Obama bubble.” Rich Lowry will speak on Wednesday, Oct. 29, in Gannett Auditorium @ 8:30pm.

Projecting through the Screen [Rich Lowry]

A very wise TV executive once told me that the key to TV is projecting through the screen. It’s one of the keys to the success of, say, a Bill O’Reilly, who comes through the screen and grabs you by the throat. Palin too projects through the screen like crazy. I’m sure I’m not the only male in America who, when Palin dropped her first wink, sat up a little straighter on the couch and said, “Hey, I think she just winked at me.” And her smile. By the end, when she clearly knew she was doing well, it was so sparkling it was almost mesmerizing. It sent little starbursts through the screen and ricocheting around the living rooms of America. This is a quality that can’t be learned; it’s either something you have or you don’t, and man, she’s got it.

Be sure to ask Dick Lowry if he was masturbating during Palin’s on-screen appearance or merely while he was typing his NRO Corner blog post.

From the Skidmore College website about Rich Lowry:

“He joined National Review in 1992, after finishing second in an NR young writers contest.”

So the rag founded by the late-William F. Buckley, superb writer, humanitarian, humorist, and father of the Conservative movement, is now overseen by a loser.

    A loser.

Lowry entered a writing contest. He failed to win. A contest has one winner and one or more losers. Lowry failed to win.

So a failure, a loser is now the boss at National Review.

And we wonder why the Conservative movement finds itself on the cusp of an election failure on every level of government?

Wow, Dick Lowry drew a crowd of 70 people at The Skid Wednesday night.

I guess Neoconservatives just don’t pack ‘em in like they used to do.

In reading the NRO Corner, I noticed that Dick Lowry never thanked the Conservatives at Skidmore College for their kindness as hosts or recognized the 70 or so people who attended the event.

Guess Dick’s not a very grateful sort of a guy.

Is such ingratitude a personal trait or, rather, the product of the entire Conservative and Neoconservative movement?
