Remember Skidmore alumnus Scott Hamilton Kennedy ‘87? Well his documentary The Garden was nominated for an Academy Award this year and he’ll be on campus to screen his film during the second annual Skidmore Film Festival this week along with the Director of A Walk to Beautiful Mary Olive Smith.
The three-day film festival will feature critically acclaimed films, a chance to interact with the directors, and a student competition. Admission is free and open to the public.
- Thursday (3/26) 7pm—A Walk to Beautiful, followed by a Q&A with award-winning director and producer Mary Olive Smith. The documentary focuses on five Ethiopian women who have suffered serious injuries during childbirth as they embark to find healing.
- Friday (3/27) 7pm—Student filmmakers showcase their short films to compete for cash prizes. Winners will be determined by the audience.
- Saturday (3/28) 7pm—The Garden, followed by a Q&A with the director Scott Hamilton Kennedy, a 1987 Skidmore graduate. The film focuses on a 14-acre community garden in Los Angeles sold to a millionaire developer below fair-market value, highlighting the social injustice among the wealthy and less-fortunate. Features Danny Glover, Daryl Hannah, and Dennis Kucinch.
